My Athletic Ability

June 26, 2008

I have never been an athletic person.  Not even a little bit.  I’ve always wished I could be one of those people who seem to have an a natural ability to play any sport they try.  When I was in high school I decided that I wanted to be able to play tennis.  My friends and I would go and play tennis on the tennis courts at the school.   But tennis is a lot harder than it looks.  And I was terrible.  It was a rare occasion that I would actually hit the ball.  I had a lot of fun playing because it was just me and my friends.

I’ve come to accept the fact that I’ll never be able play tennis.  The closest I ever come to anything athletic these days is to watch it on TV.  And once in a while I get to watch a sporting event in person.  Wouldn’t it be spectacular if I could get Wimbeldon tickets and be able to see The Wimbledon Championship.  I have always enjoyed watching Venus and Serena Williams and I usually cheer for them.  The tournaments started on June 23rd and will go until July 6th so I guess it’s always possible that I’ll get to go.

I was checking out the official Wimbledon website today I was surprised to find out how much money is up for grabs.  I knew that the prize money was good but I didn’t know that there is 23.36 million USD up for grabs.  The winners of the mens singles tournaments and of the womens singles tournament will win 1.48 million USD each.  I guess I should go back to practicing my tennis skills!

Wordless Wednesday #78

June 25, 2008

**This is my sticky post for Wednesday, June 25th. Newer entries may be added underneath this one.**

“I was sending an email to a client from my laptop when I spilled the coffee I was drinking, while I was on my cell phone. So you see, officer, it wasn’t my fault.”

So what kinds of dangerous things do you do while you’re driving? I’ve never used my laptop while driving before. But, I’m guilty of talking on my cell phone and drinking coffee. How about you?

Who Makes That?

Several years ago I worked at a store where I worked on helping people to create business cards and quality reports for their meetings. The place where I met with my customers was all windows. That might sound great. But on sunny days it was terrible. It was so hot I could hardly stand it. I complained about it over and over again to my manager. He finally did something about it and had sunscreens put it so that the sun wouldn’t make my work area so hot. It made all of the difference in the world.

Now I had never thought about it before, but who makes those sunscreens? It’s not just like a regular window covering. You can still see out, the sun still shines in, but it isn’t quite as bright and it’s much cooler. Well, Accurate Perforating makes products like sunscreens. They specialize in architectural perforated metals. They make things that are simple like a basic metal sheet or coil in addition to more complex items like the sunscreens I was referring to as well as ceiling panels, sound baffles and air diffusers.

It’s not something you really think about when you see the products that Accurate Perforating makes, but it a very interesting company. Have a look at their website, it is full of interesting information.

Tackle it Tuesday

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

We are leaving tomorrow to spend a few days at my parents house and then to travel to go to my cousins wedding this weekend. So I am going to be getting some stuff done today to prepare for our trip.

  • Get Hailey’s clothes together that do not fit her anymore (*sniff*) to give to a relative to use for her daughter who is the same size Hailey was last summer.
  • Vacuum upstairs
  • Clean kitchen
  • Finish washing laundry
  • Put laundry away
  • Pack Hailey’s clothes
  • Pack my clothes
  • Force Rich to pack his clothes
  • Pack Dottie’s stuff
  • Pack all of our other stuff
  • Pray that this cough that Hailey just developed yesterday goes away
  • Remember to bring Hailey’s nebulizer treatment machine in case the cough does not go away.

Stop by 5 Minutes for Mom to see what everyone else is tackling this week.

Planning Ahead

I love planning ahead and thinking about things well before the time has come to actually take any action.  For example I have started thinking about Hailey’s second birthday which won’t be here until October.  But we all know that time goes by very fast and before I know it October will be here.  Since all of our family lives out of town I have to start to think about what we want to do for her party.  Last year we had her party where most of our family lives so we may do that again this year.  I don’t know yet.

I’ve also started thinking about Halloween.  Last year for Halloween Hailey dressed up as Minnie Mouse and she was so cute.  I actually put the dress on her a few days ago and she thought it was great.  Today I was looking at some halloween costumes and I found the exact same costume I bought for Hailey last year at Halloween Adventures.  I bought hers at the Disney Store and it cost a lot more than it does on this site.  I don’t know yet what Hailey will be for Halloween and this year she will probably care a little more than she did last year.  But, I do know if I need to look at Disney Costumes that I will be checking out the selection at Halloween Adventures.
