I’m Turning Green Giveaway

December 16, 2008

This giveaway is now closed and the winner has been contacted.  Congrats Lily!

There are so many important things that we need to teach our children.  We have to teach them to be kind, thoughtful, giving and to have good manners.  We also need to teach our children how to take care of our earth.  The younger we start teaching these concepts the more likely our children will be to follow them.  Hailey knows that we always say “please” and “thank you.”  She also knows that we have certain items that get thrown away and certain items that we can recycle.  She is only 2 years old and doesn’t really understand why we do a lot of what we do- but she knows we do it.  And it will be automatic for her to do many of those things when she is an adult.

Teaching our kids how to take care of our environment can be kind of difficult.  But, there is a book that can help- and it is just perfect.  I’m Turning Green by Rebecca Mattano is the perfect book to use to help your child understand taking care of our environment.  It shows how the little things that we all do can really add up to help.  It will help you to know where to start in helping your children to see what they can do to be a part of helping our environment.  I’m Turning Green is simple enough for me to read to Hailey (2 years old) but it can also be used with older children as well.

Step into the adventure of a little girl who turns green from her head to her toes and learns that doing her part for the environment really shows! I’m Turning Green is a fantastic journey that teaches young readers tips for energy, water, and natural resource conservation. This book offers many ways to make homes eco-friendly today! The Little Environmentalists provides parents and educators a simple and effective way to teach their children about the environment today!

If you are looking for a way to start teaching your children how to take care of our environment- then you’re going to be happy to know that one lucky commenter will be winning a copy for I’m Turning Green from The Little Environmentalists.

Teach your children to “look back” before leaving a room and check that all lights, fans, electronics, etc. have been turned off. It’s a fun “game” and will train them to reduce electricity use. (You can also check that everything is put away at this time, too.)

Eat less meat. Lots of rainforest is cut down to make room for cattle and to farm their feed. The carbon footprint of one steak is 24xs greater than a vegan meal of the same size.

We don’t use plastic bags, we shower to a timer and have all eco frindly bulbs (almost). My weakness is hot long showers but I am trying to cut them down.
One thing I do is wash clothes in cold water and I promise they come out just as clean and they also last longer.
I also air dry ALL my washing.
