Now, you must be curious as to what my title means. Otherwise you wouldn’t still be reading, right? About a year ago I had no idea what Project Orange Thumb was. And since it’s been a while since I’ve posted about it, I thought I should give you a reminder!
Project Orange Thumb is a program funded by grants that helps to provide the tools and materials needed to create gardens for schools, senior centers, garden clubs, camps, youth groups, and other neighborhood organizations. They are located in communities across the country.
Project Orange Thumb was started in 2003 and has since given over $200,000 in grants to more than 100 community groups so that they could create and develop community gardens of their own.
The 2009 Project Orange Thumb grant application is available and if you are part of a school, senior center, garden club, neighborhood organization, or something similar you are welcome to apply. Recipients of the grant money will receive up to $1500 in Fiskars garden tools, T-Shirts for your volunteers, and up to $800 for other supplies you may need.
So, if you are looking for a way to beautify your neighborhood or you know someone who is- you may want to consider looking into Project Orange Thumb. The application deadline is February 17th, 2009 so hurry and check it out!
