Book Review and Giveaway

April 7, 2009

This giveaway is now closed and the winner has been contacted. Congrats Gina!

I am proud to say that Hailey loves books more than anything.  She will usually pick a book over any toy.  When we pull up to any store Hailey will automatically say, “Do they have books here?”  When we visit a toy store Hailey wants to see the selection of books just as much as she wants to check out the toys.

So, when Team Mom contacted me recently to see if we were interested in reviewing some books by Leslie Patricelli I didn’t even need to think about it.  I knew that Hailey would be thrilled to have some new books.  When the books arrived Hailey was super excited to see some new books.

Baby Happy Baby Sad

First we read Baby Happy Baby Sad by Leslie Patricelli.  This is a very simple book, perfect for toddlers about a baby and the various things he does through out the day that make him happy or sad.  It was very easy for Hailey to relate to the different things that the baby did that made him happy or sad.  And Hailey is very proud that she can “read”  this book by herself.

Higher! Higher!

Next up we got to check out Higher! Higher! by Leslie Patricelli.  This book was about a little girl who is on a swing and keeps asking to be pushed “Higher! Higher!”  Her imagination takes her up above the buildings and past the clouds.  This was another big hit with Hailey- and she just loves the pictures.

I love how simple the stories are in both books, perfect for toddlers and preschoolers.  I was able to read the books to Hailey one time and then she could “read” them by herself.  The illustrations are also great- so bright and colorful.  I loved the books so much that I contacted Team Mom to see if I could host a giveaway for one of my readers- and they said yes!  So, one lucky reader is going to get a copy of Higher! Higher! by Leslie Patricelli.

High Speed Internet Choices

April 6, 2009

The other day we were house hunting (again!) and we were a bit further out in the country than most of the houses we have been looking at.  Since Rich works from home one of the concerns that we have is making sure we have a great, high speed internet connection.  So when I saw how far out we were getting I wondered aloud if there would be internet available through the cable.  We need to have that so it is a selling point for us.

But you know what- we could always get our internet through something like Charter.  Their connection is between three and thirteen times faster than the phone company connection is (depending on which level of service you pick).  Plus, look at this:

-1

If you sign up for services at Charter.com you’ll have a chance to win a 22” flat screen HDTV each day during this month.  The contest is for new customers and customers who are upgrading.  Plus, there is chance to win the grand prize package from Charter which will include a 52” LCD flat screen HDTV, a Home Theater System, and one year of free Charter Digital Cable® service with HD programming.

Also, keep in mind that Charter is now on Twitter (@chartercom) in an effort to have even better customer care.

Pistachio Recall

Back in February I held a giveaway for some pistachios.  Since there was a recent recall on pistachios I wanted to let you know that Paramount Farms (the company that supplied you with your prizes) sent me an email to let me know that their pistachios are not part of the recall.

Here is a portion of the email I was sent:

We wanted to let you know that all pistachios have not been affected and that a new site, www.pistachiorecall.org, the result of a collaboration between the FDA and California growers/processors, is now available. The site lists specific safe pistachio products and brands not affected by the recall.

To see the FDA announcement, click on this link (www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104&STORY=/www/story/04-04-2009/0005000912&EDATE=) or go to www.fda.gov/pistachios.

So, I just wanted to pass that information along to you.

Eco-Kids Giveaway

April 3, 2009

This giveaway is now closed and the winner has been contacted.  Congrats Staci!

If you read my Our Crafts ~N~ Things blog then you know that Hailey and I love to do crafts.  We usually try to do some type of craft related activity everyday.  Since we are in the process of moving right now we haven’t been doing very many crafts since there just isn’t time.  But a little while ago we had the chance to check out some art supplies from Eco-Kids and of course we were thrilled at the opportunity.  Check out their line of products:

Eco-Kids

Eco-Kids carries Eco-Dough, Gluten Free Eco-Dough, Eco- Fingerpaint, and Eco-puzzles.  These art supplies are all natural.  And if you have a toddler or preschool aged child you know that children tend to put playdough and paint in their mouths.  It’s one of Hailey’s favorite parts of art time- eating our materials!  But with the Eco-Kids products you can feel better knowing that these naturally made art supplies are made from plant, fruit and vegetable extract.

So, what did we get to check out?

Eco-Kids

The Eco-dough- which is all natural.  It doesn’t have any chemicals, artificial dyes or metals. The containers are also made from cornstarch and are 100% compostable.  And the eco-dough doesn’t dry out like your typical playdough.  If you do happen to leave the top off- you can just add a little bit of olive oil and it will be just like new.

Eco-Kids

We also go to try out the Eco-fingerpaint- which is also made all with all natural products.

There are many moms out there who also want all natural and safe products to use with their children.  So, I asked Eco-Kids if I could host a giveaway for one of my readers- and they agreed.  One lucky reader will get to win one tube of Eco-dough and one tube of Eco-paint, with a combined retail value of $40.

Here’s what you need to do for a chance to win:

  • Stop by Eco-Kids and look around.
  • Come back here and leave me a comment telling me something you saw while visiting their site- it can be anything at all.

Want some extra chances to win? Leave an ADDITIONAL COMMENT FOR EACH extra entry.

  • Blog about this giveaway linking back to this post. Then leave me a comment with the direct URL.
