If you’re anything like me you have thousands of pictures saved on your computer or laptop. And if you’re like me you know that you need to back them up- you just don’t ever actually take the time to do it. It’s a long and tedious task that is always on your to-do list but never gets done. My system for backing up my pictures is that at the end of each month I burn all of my pictures from that month to a CD. Except that I haven’t done it since last June. It takes sooooo long and my laptop runs soooooo slow that I hate doing it. But I worry that if something happened to my laptop I would lose all of those pictures. Gone forever and ever. The thought is more than I can stand.
So- when I was contacted recently to see if I wanted to try out a new product called Picture Keeper- that makes backing up all of your pictures easy- I said YES PLEASE!!
Picture Keeper is my new best friend- seriously. It was sooooooo easy! You simply plug the little doo-dad (that’s the technical term for “flash drive”) into your computer. The flash drive has the software right on it, so you don’t have to do anything like download a program (otherwise known as something that would confuse me and cause me to put it off for another day). Then with the simple click of the mouse you are on your way to backing up all of your pictures. The Picture Keeper finds all of your pictures- no matter where they are on your computer- and copies them.
I had over 9000 pictures on my laptop so I was a little skeptical that it was going to take all day and make my computer run slow. Guess what? I was wrong on both accounts. It took a little over an hour and I was able to use my computer just like normal- no slowness at all. Plus- I can plug it in to Rich’s laptop (or any laptop or computer) and copy pictures from there too. Then I signed up for an email reminder- and once a month I’ll get an email letting me know it’s time to back up my pictures again. Then I’ll plug in the Picture Keeper and it will find only the pictures I have added to my computer since the last time I backed them up.
Another thing I loved is that the Picture Keeper saved the folders and subfolders exactly as I have them on my computer. So I have a folder called “Want to Print” filled with pictures from the last year that I will eventually get printed. Now all I have to do take the Picture Keeper with me to the store and plug it in- open my “Want to Print” folder and print out my pictures. It couldn’t be any easier.

Unfortunately, I do not have a way to back up my photos now. I lost a TON of photos when my laptop crashed last year. I was so sad. Most of the photos from my laptop were directly from my digital camera’s memory card. Once I put the photos on my laptop I deleted them off the card and didn’t even think of backing up my computer. What a cool idea! Currently I transfer all of my pictures to our external hard drive, and then when I get enough I burn them onto a CD. I’m always a little worried that something could happen to either one and I’d lose all my pics!

We have an external hard drive… which is hidden away in another room somewhere, so I really couldn\’t tell you the last time our pictures were backed up. I would be devastated if I lost all the baby pictures from my girls!
